Today Cinema City opens its 10th multiplex in Romania. The cinema has 10 screens and 2 135 seats and it’s equipped with 5 digital projectors. It’s the first multiplex in Braila. Cinema City currently operates 10 multiplexes with 98 screens in the country.
“We are progressing in building up a countrywide cinema chain in Romania. Today we opened our 10th multiplex and we have binding agreements for over 20 cinemas in Bucharest and most of secondary cities in the country ” said Nisan Cohen, Deputy CFO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. “We observe growing cinema going level in Romania, which in 2010 sold 6.8 million tickets, 23% more over the previous year. We are happy to see that Romanian people like to watch movies in modern multiplexes and we are ready to offer them best cinema going standards across the country.”
Cinema City in Romania has multiplexes already in 9 cities: Bucharest (Cotroceni&IMAX and Sun Plaza), Iasi, Timisoara, Pitesti, Bacau, Cluj, Braila, Baia Mare and Arad. Romania is the country, where Cinema City experiences the most intensive organic growth of cinema circuit. The Company has more than 20 lease agreements for cinemas located in shopping centers, which openings are scheduled in 2011-2013. This year Cinema City plans to open another 3-4 cinemas in Romania.
In 2010 Romanian operations generated EUR 18.2 million (+135.8% over 2009), which were 8% of the Company’s total revenues in 2010. In Romania Cinema City sold 3.1 million tickets (+101.4% over 2009). The Company is also running cinema related businesses: cinema advertising through New Age Media and film distribution through Forum Film Romania, which an exclusive distributor of Walt Disney Studio.
Cinema City International is the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. The Company operates 91 multiplexes with 873 screens, in 7 countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovakia and Israel). There are 34 more multiplexes under development, which will offer approximately 350 new screens. In addition, Cinema City is actively involved in cinema related advertising and film distribution.
In 2010 Cinema City sold 30.5 million tickets in six countries, 11.1% more compared to 2009.
The Cinema City group employs over 4,000 people in 7 countries.
