Cinema City Cotroceni megaplex opens in Bucharest (23 November 2009)
Samsung sponsors the first IMAX® in Romania
Cinema City opened its largest cinema in Romania: Cinema City Cotroceni in Bucharest. This cinema has 21 screens including the only IMAX theatre in Romania. The Company installed 4 digital projectors - all with function allowing 3D shows. The IMAX theatre is sponsored by Samsung.

Our Company has been operating in Romania for the past two years and received a warm welcome in the five cities where we opened in the countryside. Greidinger, CEO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. “We are proud that the first IMAX theatre in the country is sponsored by Samsung, a worldwide leader in electronic technology. This sponsorship agreement associates two companies, both delivering state-of-the-art equipment and services to their clients ”-he added.
Cinema City Cotroceni has 21 screens and 4 250 seats. It’s the 6th Cinema City in Romania after Timisoara, Iasi, Cluj, Bacau and Pitesti. Following this opening the Company operates 56 screens in Romania representing 9% of its total number of screens. Romanian operations generated 3% of the consolidated revenues in the first nine months of 2009 and 4% of admissions sold by Cinema City in this period. In the coming years Romania will become the second largest country of the Company’s operations. Currently there are 279 screens under binding contracts across the country.
Finally Greidinger added: "We have good plans and expectations for the next year in the Romanian market. We plan to open more cinemas including second megaplex Cinema City Sun Plaza in Bucharest. We hope that people in Romania will continue discovering Cinema City as the best cinemagoing experience".
Cinema City International is the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. The Company operates 69 multiplexes with 650 screens, in 6 countries (Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Israel). There are 41 more multiplexes under development, which will offer additional 423 screens. In addition, Cinema City is actively involved in cinema related advertising and film distribution.
The Cinema City group employs over 3,000 people in 6 countries.
