Cinema City opens the multiplex in Cluj in Romania (23 October 2008)
Cinema City International N.V. (“Cinema City”) opens today its 3rd multiplex in Romania, in the city of Cluj. By the end of this year or early next year Cinema City plans to open additional two multiplexes in the cities of Bacau and Pitesti.
- Romania is the market where we are currently carrying out our most intensive program of development - said Moshe (Mooky) Greidinger, CEO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. - The cinema in Cluj is our third multiplex in Romania, and the largest so far. We have 27 more projects underway, to be opened in the next 3 years. We anticipate that in two years’ time, Romania will become the second largest territory for Cinema City after Poland.
The multiplex that opened today has 10 screens and 1 670 seats. The historic city of Cluj is one of the largest in Romania. With a population of about 320,000, it is an important economic and academic center.
The three multiplexes currently operated by Cinema City in Romania offer a total of 22 screens. There are 27 projects under construction which will provide some 270 additional screens. Two of the new projects scheduled to open next year are the first two Cinema City multiplexes in Bucharest (in total 35 regular screens and IMAX theatre).
Cinema City runs 62 multiplexes with 571 screens in six countries (Poland, Hungary, The Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania and Israel.
