Cinema City opens multiplex in Zielona Gora, Poland (17 October 2008)
Cinema City International N.V. (“Cinema City”) opened a multiplex today in Zielona Góra. The cinema has 9 screens and about 1,300 seats. It is Cinema City’s 25th theatre in Poland.
“The project in Zielona Góra is an excellent illustration of how our strategy is being achieved in Poland,” said Nisan Cohen, Deputy CFO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. “Beyond the largest cities, where we already have good presence, we are also concentrating on mid-sized cities that still lack modern cinema infrastructure. Our cinema in Zielona Góra, which has a population of nearly 120,000 people, is the city’s first multiplex.”
The cinema in Zielona Góra is the 25th Cinema City theatre in Poland (for a total of 278 screens). The company is the leader on the Polish market, with over 50% share in the total number of multiplex screens. Cinema City is planning further investments in Poland, with 8 new projects currently underway.
Including the newly opened cinema in Zielona Góra, the Cinema City chain includes 61 multiplexes with a total of 561 screens, in six countries of operation. (In addition to Poland, which is its largest market, the company has operations in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Romania and Israel.)
