Cinema City signs lease for its 30th multiplex in Romania in the city of Sibiu. (26 September 2008)
“Within the last two years we succeeded to sign 30 agreements for new cinemas in Romania. I strongly believe that our investments in Romania will be the catalyst for an intensive development of both, the cinemagoing culture and the domestic film industry” said Nisan Cohen, Deputy CFO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. “We intend to sign more agreements in Romania to provide the full modern cinema infrastructure in the country. I am convinced that in the coming years the number of tickets sold per capita in Romania will be increasing thanks to the good multiplex infrastructure and a good supply of international blockbusters and domestic film production”.
The lease for space for the multiplex in a shopping mall in Sibiu was signed by a Romanian company from the Cinema City group and the SC Festival company. The new multiplex will have 8 screens and over 1,700 seats. The opening is planned for the end of 2010.
Romania is Cinema City’s sixth country of operations (after Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Israel). The company operates 60 multiplexes with a total of 552 screens.
In Romania Cinema City operates already 2 multiplexes (opened at the end of 2007 in Iasi and Timisoara). 28 more multiplexes are underway in this country. Sibiu will be the 21st city in Romania, where Cinema City will operate multiplex.
