Cinema City sold nearly 20 million tickets in 2007 (29 January 2008)

There were 32.6 million cinema admissions sold in Poland in 2007, according to data from Boxoffice.pl, a company that monitors this market. That was 1.8% more than in 2006. During the same period, Cinema City’s ticket sales in Poland grew by 21.4%, to 11.9 million. The Cinema City chain as a whole, in its six countries of operation, sold 19.8 million admissions in 2007, which was 15.1% more than in the previous year.

 

“2007 was a good year for us,” said Moshe J. (Mooky) Greidinger, CEO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. “We achieved clear growth in ticket sales, which we attribute to growth in the network of multiplexes and high audience figures for films, both international and local productions, which were mainly significant in Poland.

“We achieved high sales growth in large part thanks to the Polish market, which remains our largest operating market,” the CEO added.  “the success of our new locations contributed to the growth of our market share, and clearly shows our leadership position”. Cinema City’s market share in the number of tickets sold in Poland for 2007 is estimated at 34% , compared to 28% in 2006.

 

In 2007 Cinema City opened 5 multiplexes in Poland (in Poznań, Rybnik, Sosnowiec, Lublin and Gliwice), increasing the total number of its Polish multiplexes to 23.

Cinema City continues to expand its network of multiplexes. In mid-January of this year, in Budapest, the company opened the largest cinema in Central Europe (23 screens plus an IMAX® cinema, with a total of 3,800 seats).

 

Under leases already in place, the number of the company’s cinema screens will increase from the current 534 to c. 950 in 2010.

 

In the case of Poland, in the next 3 years Cinema City plans to open projects in such cities as Płock, Bydgoszcz, Zielona Góra, Bytom, Bielsko-Biała and Rzeszów, as well as megaplexes in Gdańsk and Cracow.

 

Side by side with above development, CCI carries out its intense investment activity in Romania, Cinema City’s newest operating market. Its first two cinemas were opened there in late 2007, and a further 19 projects are underway In the coming years.
