Cinema City opens first cinema in Romania
“We are opening our first cinema in Romania today, but I daresay we already hold the position of the clear leader on this market,” said Moshe J. Greidinger, CEO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex cinema operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel.“In recent months we have focused our development there because the Romanian market has great growth potential. Nineteen more projects are signed and under development, and there are plans to sign new agreements to lease space and operate more cinemas.”
“Romania is developing very quickly in terms of the increasing number of new shopping malls together with the modern cinema infrastructure,” the CEO added. “We believe that Romania will follow other countries of the region, like Poland and Hungary, and the number of admissions in this country will be growing together with the infrastructure development”
The first Cinema City multiplex in Romania is located in a shopping mall in Iaşi (one of the largest cities in Romania, with a population of about 350,000). The multiplex has 5 screens and 830 seats.
Including the cinema that is opening today in Iasi, Cinema City operates a total of 61 multiplexes, with 508 screens, in 6 countries (in addition to Romania, the countries are Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Bulgaria and Israel).
