Cinema City to open multiplex in Płock
The Cinema City International N.V. group (“Cinema City”) has signed a lease for space in a shopping mall in Płock. It will operate a multiplex there with 8 screens and approximately 1,200 seats. The opening of the cinema is planned for the 4th quarter of 2008.
“Poland is Cinema City’s largest business market.” said Moshe J. Greidinger, CEO of Cinema City, the largest multiplex operator in Central & Eastern Europe and in Israel. “We intend to strengthen our leadership position by expanding our network. We are already present in the largest cities, and now we are focusing primarily on medium-sized cities.”
The lease of space for the new multiplex in the Płock shopping mall Galeria Mosty was signed by the Cinema City group with Manhattan Development Sp. z o.o.. The lease is for 10 years, with an option to extend the lease three times for a further 5 years each time.
The company plans to open other multiplexes in Poland in 2008 in addition to the one in Płock, including multiplexes in such cities as Bydgoszcz, Zielona Góra, Bytom, Bielsko-Biała and Rzeszów where Cinema City does not have its cinemas yet. Cinema City also plans additional projects for larger cities where it already has a presence, in Gdańsk and Cracow (2009). Cinema City has one multiplex already in Gdańsk, and three in Cracow. The company plans large cinemas in both cities – megaplexes with 19 screens plus an IMAX® theatre in Gdańsk and 20 screens in Cracow.
Cinema City has a total of 23 multiplexes in Poland, its largest market, five of which the company opened this year. In January the company acquired the Kinepolis cinema in Poznań, in March it opened multiplexes in Rybnik and Sosnowiec, and in June it opened cinemas in Lublin and Gliwice.
